Resumen del Editor

A groundbreaking Latinx Aliens novel by a rising star Latina author, featuring the fan-favorite character PFC Jenette Vasquez from the hit movie Aliens and the family she is forced to leave behind

Even before the doomed mission to Hadley’s Hope on LV-426, Jenette Vasquez had to fight to survive. Born to an immigrant family with a long military tradition, she looked up to the stars, but life pulled her back down to Earth—first into a street gang, then prison. The Colonial Marines proved to be Vasquez’s way out—a way that forced her to give up her twin children. Raised by Jenette’s sister, those children, Leticia and Ramon, had to discover their own ways to survive. Leticia by following her mother’s path into the military, Ramon into the corporate hierarchy of Weyland-Yutani. Their paths would converge on an unnamed planet which some see as a potential utopia, while others would use it for highly secretive research. Regardless of whatever humans might have planned for it, however, Xenomorphs will turn it into a living hell.

Disappointed

Here's what I think happened- the publisher contacted this author with an offer to write an Alien novel. Author takes an unpublished YA novel and sprinkles in a few (very few) xenomorphs. Boom! Here you go.
I was really looking forward to this, because let's face it, isn't Vasquez everyone's favorite? Well, she's barely in the book. The characters we do get are static and not very likable.
The references to music made it seem inauthentic as an Alien story. Young people aren't partying to The Eagles now, let alone 200 years in the future. It just didn't feel like it was set in the Alien universe.
The narration leaves a lot to be desired. Frankly, it was hard to listen to.
This story is for somebody, but that somebody isn't me.

I really wanted to like this

I had looked forward to this title since it came up in a curated list for pre-order. The narration fell so much flatter than I imagined could have for this title. The narrator sounded like an older teen who didn't want to be bothered with reading. While the main characters are younger, having a narrator with a younger sounding voice is important, but inflection and tone carry the weight of the story and it just wasn't there, especially when it needed to be. The story had too many moving parts, some of which were completely unnecessary (like Ramon needing to have his main relationship being extramarital when it was clear from early on what was going to happen, we could have saved 10-15 minutes just by skipping the necessary storytelling with that relationship. What I had the most trouble with was the way that Leticia was portrayed as simultaneously a strong/capable/self-reliant woman and the next sentence it's like she can't exist without a man she has the hots for...make up your mind on how you want the character to read.

Watched Aliens a couple times, let's write a book

The performance is sadly just bad with constant latina inflections and mannerisms which don't belong with... basically any character and even those sound forced. There's no pacing, inconsistent voicing and it's just plain bad.

Then there's the story... I get the vibe the author watched Aliens a few times and that was about it for research, no knowledge of how... well just about anything work... basics of any Criminal Justice system, corporations the police, established technology in the aliens universe, basic biology... just ugh. Jeanette Vazquez is turned into bad mommy and her daughter runs off to play marine in a nonsensical botched Aliens era universe with lots of unnecessary sexual undertones that add nothing to the story except make the listener uncomfortable due to the performance.

it's just bad all around unfortunately. I struggled and got through it and am left wishing I'd found someone to do voice to text of some extended fan fiction I read when I was a teenager from the internet.

Don't waste your time unless you go in knowing just how bad it is and how much potential it had. As another Aliens fan this one just hurts that it was published and I wasted the time and credit listening to it.

Meh

I’m an alien junkie. I got thru the story but it wasn’t easy. Monotone performance. I had higher hopes for the subject material.

Good introduction to the Vasquez twins...was expecting more of a badass than we got.

I have finished Aliens: Vasquez and here are my thoughts. It's not the best book, but it is enjoyable. The thing that through me off was the narrator of the book. She tried very hard and succeed in some parts, but her tone wasn't as badass as the Vasquez we know and love. The narrator potrayed the siblings very well, but there was a still a lack of "badass" being conveyed.
The story was a bit long and drawn out in some parts, but I believe the author was trying to connect the back stories of the twins and relate then to there mother... basically jVasquez meet the Xenomorphs and now her children were destined to meet the Xenomorphs as well.
There was some action and political intrigue, but it didn't have the tenseness of "The Cold Forge or Into Charybdis" that I was hoping would happen.
The twin brotherRamon, was a smart company man, but did not have the ruthlessness of Dorian Sudler or even Burke. When shit hit the fan, he was just a scared company man.
The sister Leticia was hard core and did her trying like her mother, but to me she was not on The same level as Jenette Vasquez...yet.
In the end, it was good, but I was expecting more badassary from Leticia since her mother is her idle.
I give it 3.5 out of 5. Good but there is more room to improve upon the story and character of Leticia Vasquez.

Omg terrible!

so I made it just past the 3 hr mark then I turned the book off... this book is ABOUT the FAMILY and NOT Janette. see the movie makes it look like the Marines in aliens had been around and seasoned already. This book portrays that Janette was on her VERY FIRST MISSION and was killed about 2 hours into the book. right after training. Then the rest of the book was about the rest of the family. IMO that is very different from the movie. it feels like her charactor got the Raw end of the deal. The narrator did a good job mostly. The very first part of the book was HATING men at the START! This is really disappointing, and not worth the alien name.

Not good.

I can’t remember if I paid for this or if it was free, but what I do know is that I wouldn’t pay for it if I had known how bad it is.

Not worth the hype

Story is jumping back and forth. Can’t focus on any one point. A lot of the characters have too much self pity to really relate to. Don’t have the aliens in the same plot until almost halfway through.

The narrator was boring. Little variation between character voices. Even human characters feel robotic.

Awful, Just awful.

this honestly did not seem like an Aliens novel at all. it recaps what happened in the movie and gives you somewhat of a introduction to vasquez's life and then after she dies in the alien movie The story goes completely flat. you start to not care about the character and when certain character arcs are explained it makes your eyes roll. I'm a bit disappointed because alien novels don't come out a lot and I felt like this release could have been better. I don't think this should be considered canon. if you're going to tie in a main character's children look at alien isolation for a good example.

Great book, but uninspired narration.

I loved the story of this book, but it was marred by the monotonous and boring narration. It had deserved much better!
